We have decided that we like to go camping in southern Utah in the spring and in the fall. The whole Anderson clan decided that we should head to Goblin Vally this spring. We have been planning this trip for a couple of months. But as it got closer we could see that the weather was not going to be great. So we decided to switch a few days around and head down Friday night staying until Monday afternoon. We knew the weather was going to be questionable on Friday and expected some cold for the night. But what we didn't expect was the wind. Now remember I grew up in Idaho Falls, I know wind. I grew up with wind, but what I didn't grow up with is sand and wind combined. Which can bring you to swearing and throwing chairs across camp. You can only stay in your trailer for so long. What is interesting is if you ask any of the kids how the trip was they will tell you that they loved Goblin Valley. The wind didn't always seem to bug them, they played in the sand, and found caves in the rocks to play in. We hiked Little wild horse on Saturday and the kids thought it was awesome. It was the perfect hike for kids and a pregnant woman. Not too hard, but really fun. At times it was hard to keep up with the little kids who could squeeze through small spots quickly. We went over to the actual Goblin Valley twice and the kids thought they were in climbing heaven. They ran for "goblins to goblins" climbing and hiding. This is a natural playground for kids. At times I wondered who was going to be the first to fall off the rocks they had climbed up, but luckily we were all kept safe aside from a few scratched belly's from sliding down. Though the wind blew and the sand was miserable to the adults, and we even came home a day early, the kids would never tell you that. I wish sometimes that I could have the short memory span of a child!! I am hoping to find a southern Utah destination without sand for my next spring camping trip.
